The development of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) has created new opportunities for educational media development and history learning in higher education. This study aims to analyze the experiences of fourth-semester History Education students in utilizing GenAI as an educational medium, identify its applications in developing history learning media, and examine its benefits, challenges, information verification practices, and academic integrity concerns. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed. Participants were purposively selected from fourth-semester History Education students who participated in AI training and practical activities. Data were collected through observations, semi-structured interviews, documentation of AI-assisted educational media products, and student reflections. Data were analyzed through reduction, coding, categorization, thematic analysis, and conclusion drawing, with credibility established through source and technique triangulation. The findings indicate that students utilized GenAI to generate learning ideas, develop materials, create storyboards, produce historical visualizations, prepare video scripts, develop quizzes, and design digital presentations. GenAI was perceived as increasing efficiency and creativity. However, students faced challenges related to inaccurate information, limited prompt-writing skills, over-reliance, and academic ethical concerns. Therefore, GenAI should be integrated through a human-centred learning framework that emphasizes critical thinking, source verification, historical interpretation, and academic responsibility.
